For real some of the shyt thats been said on here has convinced me that racism is still a big issue, I was wrong. Now bear in mind I'm still a young ass guy, idgaf about politics and all that shyt and I pay 0 attention to it. So my question is with all this racism how did Obama not only win the election once but 4 years later get re-elected?

Whites make up more then half of the US population, why did they vote for him if they hate black people?

It was a few factors:

1) White Males no longer make up the majority of the electorate and nobody outside of that group has an interest in seeing them remain in power.

2) The marketing machine behind Obama was incredible

3) Obama is an impressive candidate, perhaps the best political gamesman since LBJ.

google electoral college
oh shyt i forgot all about this. I haven't googled it but i remember one of my friends telling me that the election isn't by who citizens vote for, its by some room with college students, college students decide who the next president is going to be. That explains it then if its true.

Because of a few main reasons. Number one, the white majority was experiencing a liberal wave after the bush years that saw an unpopular war turn agains the conservative wave. If you look at any time in history, if a war goes on too long, the American people get very very upset. Bush started an endless war, lied about countless parts of his imperialist plans, and whites were not having it. The second reason is because there were serious doubt concerning John McCain an even the republicans knew he could run the most powerful nation in the world; he doesn't have charisma to be influential on the world stage. It's missing. The third reason is because Obama is considered weak on race issues. He stated repeatedly that he is not a black president, but an American President and it was an internaitonal political move to place a man of color as the leader. It made us look better internationally which we needed during a crippling recession. There are alot more reasons, but these are the main ones. Racial Oppression still exists everywhere ion the nation, but don't forget that alot of the oppression is also class based. There were global, national, and state ramifications behind Obama's election, but it was strictly a political move for whites to have him there.
