I feel like this was done awhile ago... but figured we could revisit. Curious if it has helped anyone.

For a family... we paid $180 per month prior to Obamacare.

Last year it nearly doubled to $340 per month.

Now we were just hit with another increase and will pay $540 per month.

Tripled our premium.

is that through the exchange? Have you shopped around. I just changed my moms insurance because it had gone up by like 75$. Got her damn near the same plan for 20$ cheaper than she was paying before? :manny: shop around.

Premiums went down, but deductibles went up considerably. Luckily, I'm in pretty good health so I don't visit the doctor that often.
yeah there's a lot ot be said of planning. If you're in decent health then you can afford a higher deducible plan.

What tripped me out was the number of shyt ass plans that were clearly garbage and often more expensive than other plans. I wonder sometimes if people don't get deductible vs premium, I know my moms didn't she was just looking at that monthly price, meanwhile she had like a 6k deductible. I had to explain that she was going to be paying $200 a month and when she went to the doctor she was going to have to pay 6k upfront before insurance ever kicked in. Told her it's better to pay 220 a month and just have copays, she goes to the doctor a lot.

You should purchase the plan you can afford and that will suite you best.

We have a high deductible HSA through an employer. I haven't even checked out the exchange, but just a quick glance looks like it'd be slightly more expensive.

shyt hurts the pocketbook.

:mjcry:

The general bill rates seem crazy too. We've gone a few times for nothing more than general visits and they're billing almost $700 and after insurance, we're paying $300.

:scust:

HSA could get wiped out in a few visits.

What is crazy is that this is the slowest growth of rates in some time. I don't understand cases like yours, it makes me wonder what would be happening without the exchange. There is considerable information that insurers are just hyping shyt up and using Obamacare as an excuse.

I know cobra would have cost me thousands after I retired. I have dental, eye, medical and probably some others and it's fairly inexpensive. I also have a lot of deductions to put me in a lower bracket so I'm getting subsidized as well.

I'm just thankful we make decent money because I don't know what we'd do if we were making an OK income with more obligations than we currently have and suddenly we're hit with 2k less per year.

Premiums are higher and no more zero deductible plans. I`m pretty sure I won't get a "Deal" using the exchange because I probably make too much.

yeah I actually switched to an HMO this year because the EPO and PPO's offered made the pharmacy cost part of the deductible, my wife has MS and some of those meds are expensive as fuk, TSA would have been done in the first two months AND the deductible still wouldn't have been met. HMO is only like $20 more monthly but I have my TSA and it isn't all burnt out already.

If it's not much of a price difference consider going HMO :manny: working well for us so far this year.
