And Beverly Hills Polo Club is still its own functioning brand as far as I can tell and is not defunct. It was established in a year after USPA incorporated and has the same manufacturer as Izod

That's not actually the same brand as the "clothing" USPA that wasn't incorporated until 1981. They just bought the rights to be slick.
The Association's trademarks and logos registered worldwide are managed by USPA Properties, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of the USPA. The brand incorporated in 1981.

It's an official subsidiary of the "real" US Polo Association due to moves made after RL was incorporated. Hence the 1981 vs 1967. 1890 is an irrelevant red herring of a year, as there was no official brand representing the United States Polo Association in 1890. They waited until 1981 and began copying.
