It really depended on what part of the world you were in and what class.
If you were a cac during those times, especially a lower class cac from more Western Europe/British Isles, you probably didn't bathe much because of the fact that the waters in pre-plumbing days were riddled with disease and that's why cacs during those times thought taking a bath made you sick because they would literally get sicked from bath taking.
Whereas in other parts of the world, things like bath taking and even sewage handling was way better and ahead of cacs but still, there could be problems in some parts.
I've been reading a book on Elizabethan England and it hit on the cleansing issue and one thing English cacs would do during those times would wear special undershirts that would wisk away sweat and grime and then send the shirts off to the local launder for deep cleaning. They also had different scents they could put on and for the ones who were a little bit more wealthy, could actually get a legit body cleansing done with legit clean water.
Glad I didn't have to deal with that tho...Yuck!
