About 4 years ago Lil Wayne was considered the biggest seller in rap.
He was all over the radio now he has basically lost all that momentum.

WHAT HAPPENED???

Was it the childish raps?
Was it the skateboarder phase?
The rock album?
Or simply the emergence of better rappers "J. Cole, Kendrick, Drake"

What killed Wayne's Buzz?

I personally think Wayne placed all his bets on entertaining the kids (teenagers) and doing such he failed to develop as an artist.

What are your thoughts?

His skills diminished significantly
The infighting with Birdman
Other rappers taking the public eye
His projects weren't as good as his previous work

He over saturated himself, that's mainly it.... the only time he wasnt present was when he was in jail, he's ALWAYS been putting work out.

Superhead had a point, fall back and be that guy that made the way for Drake, Nicki, and the various clones

That's exactly it... you have to go away for a bit and let people miss you. He over saturated the market with albums, mix tapes and features and that's great, the effort is appreciated, but the content was subpar.

Wayne officially lost the top spot to Drake in 2012.

Drake took over after he dropped Take Care.

Weezy was still selling more than anyone in 2011.

C4 wasn't good musically so in my eyes that's when wayne fell off.

And he didn't lose it fast....he signed the 2 biggest artists with drake and nikki.

Wayne was that nikka from 2004 to 2012.

Wayne just got to stop tryna out out a lot of music and release every 2 or 3 and take that Hov backseat approach to music.

Agreed.

Wayne is a legend and he's in a position where he needs to align himself with hiv, kanye, em etc. Just release every few years and get into that business state of mind.
