I don't feel he did, I just feel like it wasn't what people expected...

I love the album, classic to me...

2000 bc had wack production too
With those sega genesis beats

Cani bus was dope

That patriots how we roll second round ko buckingham palace and i honor u are better than anything on 2000bc

Canbus cant make songs

Those are the only tracks on Can-I-bus worth listening to. I still hate to the hook that was added to Buckingham Palace.

he was let lose on 2000 BC, however like I mentioned in the other thread, he battled a lot of the beats. They just didn't compliment him, for the most part.

I gave both a listen today..again.......2000 BC is is overrated, Its an album for the stans..who wanted to hear battle raps over hard beats. I was the same way when it dropped but as I got older I realized Can-I-Bus was much more solid, had actual concepts and real songs, and aged much better than 2000 BC.

I never understood that.

Canibus and stans kept dissing Wycelf for CAN-I-BUS but when 2000 B.C. dropped ..it wasn't a better overall album than CAN-I-BUS

Only wack track on CAN-I-BUS was Rip Rock
The whole production being wack thing was blown out of proportion once the gun was pulled on the magazine editor who said that. Once the media got a hold of the story that stigma of bad production got stuck in people's head because the story was so big. Wyclef was the one who was blamed for pulling out the gun. I heard it was HatianJack though but no one really knows what Canibus meant when he dissed Wyclef for the album. We can assume he meant the production or the direction of the album but at the end of the day I don't think he ever explained that 2000 b.c.line dissing him. He should have stood by the album that he made especially since it's a good album.

That's true but that's not the type of album Canibus fans wanted at the time. People wanted 2000 b.c. type material really for the majority of his career. Even up to his battle with Dizaster, people wanted to hear that type of stuff from him, they always have.

this may have played a small role in some people's minds but on the real, most people didn't hear about the Blaze Magazine incident or they didn't care, period. I mean Blaze Mag lasted what a year and a half maybe then they folded quietly and that was that.

Like a dude said earlier in this thread, the hype that Canibus had leading up to his album was legendary. He literally murdered every guest spot he had from 97 to his album dropping. the run he was on was unbelievable. Add in the LL beef and it only gave him more acclaim. You remember the ads that Universal had in The Source for him with famous rappers quotes calling him "the illest rapper alive" and hyping him up only adding more anticipation and then he drops a disjointed album with beats that were severely underwhelming and we were all left saying "that's the best you could do for your debut?"

I mean I already had doubts personally when I heard about him signing with Wyclef and them cause I could never really fukk with the fugees especially clef's wack ass so I shoulda known better than but still I'd be lying if I wasn't like "wtf is this?" when I copped it. I was so underwhelmed that I copped it, listened to it a few times, dubbed it and exchanged it for Fat Joe's "Don Cartegena" album. never regretted it either.

That has nothing to do with the production aspect that I mentioned.

I remember when it all went down. Something like that would still be big news even today but this was a time before crazy ish like this was a common occurrence so it stood out even more. The media ate it up and the story was everywhere. Clef at the time was a major superstar going diamond with the Fugees, Canibus as you said was becoming a star in his own as well and had a crazy buzz. Get two major artist of today and have one of them pull a gun on anyone in the media no matter their status. It could be a blogger and tell me that the media wouldn't have a field day. The fact of the matter is the media inadvertently trained the public to think the production on the album was bad. Back then even if you didn't hear the album you heard about the lituation with the gun and you heard it was over the production. I've seen it a million times.

All this right here...

That shyt was real, breh. Ain't no shyt where people got coerced into thinking the production was wack... it was, and it was one of the things (along with Canibus' overall inability to put together a good album) that took him from being one of the hottest new names to 'blah' in no time. Canibus was on a crazy run, and second only to DMX when it came to anticipation that year. When songs like 'How We Roll' and '2nd Round KO' dropped, you just knew this nikka was comin' thru with the classic. :lupe: Then you heard the album... :beli:

Canbus cant make songs
Some rappers just can’t make great music consistently enough to put together a great album.

I feel like Eminem is in there with Canibus. Both can rap circles around the competition but when it comes to putting together a great album you’re probably not gonna get it. You might get something entertaining in the moment but revisiting it much later it won’t age well.
