he got cheap and cute with the production
fugees had a few dope cuts ... but the score was overrated and overplayed to hype it ... mostly carried by lauryn
wyclef was just a terrible choice as a producer and canibus (who I love) put out good albums (TFLDPR,MM,FA, PLI, RTJ, FWTBT, LL, COT, Mic Club was decent) but judging from some projects with other people... he isnt the most aware at picking beats either... so it does fall on him for trusting Wyclef and buying in. He gets alot of hate but its more like lack of support... he has albums that are ahead of their time "Fait Accompli, Melatonin Magick" so he's held up his end of the rap bargain... people complain about beats and shyt butI dont see them supporting Apollo Brown and Ras Kass, so how far does that really take you if the fans arent willing to purchase your music? Nobody jumped to buy Kurupt and Dj Quik's album either, even knowing it had amazing production.

It's a damn classic & if anything it's under rated....i rarely see it mentioned.
It's arguably a top 5 album from 1996, which is 1 of the GOAT hip hop years...

ready or not was terrible and played every 20 minutes on TV and the radio
Killing me Softly was an excellently done lazy drum break with that bonita applebum sample every 8 bars
and was played every 10 minutes on the radio for 6 months straight
zealots was my shyt off that album and the status is iconic but what I'm trying to say is Lauryn carried that album
If she wasnt on it I wouldnt listen at all... the beats are pretty good, but if I'm an upcoming emcee I wouldnt bet the house on Wyclef giving me a great career
It does define that entire spring and summer though ... you should make a thread on The Score because you arent wrong, it is barely mentioned and classic. I just got so tired of hearing that ready or not submarine sound shyt
I feel like this song alone crushes
I wish they kept that energy for the other songs on the score... it seems really mysterious and mellow throughout The Score, its a weird vibe to me. Not in a bad way, I just have to be in a very specific mood to listen to it.
