I wanna ge an RHCE since ive worked with Unix most of my career. Thats my main goal but lately ive been diving into javascript and nodeJS. I need to leave operations and go into Development and DevOps

Years of experience in the same field and selling myself to prove it when I got there.

Kept getting turned down by them for years until I just copied and pasted the experience I listed on an old State job resume when I applied yet again.

Aced the phone interview but the guy gave me the wrong date for the in person interview:francis:

When I got there, I had to negotiate for another interview on the spot after being two days late and they filled the position already. I was granted an interview for a different department.

That manager looked at my resume during the interview and was like , "you would be great here but you would be perfect there". So he got me another interview for that department.

Finally did that interview about a month later. Took a management position for another company before I was offered the job cause I wasnt sure they were going to contact me back . The process took three months but it was worth the wait :smugbiden:

So I left the management gig and I've been here for a year and a half now.

Took a civil service exam with a municipal government earlier in January

Ended up being #14 of 16 people they called up:obama:

my Foreman told me I’m the youngest person he’s ever seen in my specific position :manny:

Went to school for a number of years, came out with a B.S. in C.S. Applied up and down the West coast for several months, landed a job with a Fortune 100 company. Looked over some shoulders for a month or two and got placed on a team working on some emerging technologies that are going to be a cornerstone for 5G. In the coming years you can thank me for making your lives better :win:.

when i first started that job in 2013..i had regular PTO but the CEO is pretty progressive so the following year he switched over to unlimited PTO with some rules in place for it. I didnt abuse it though but it took until 2016 to finally feel comfortable using ot...2016 was my best year financially AND professionally...I was able to use it..i took so many big and small vacations that uear..it was a perfect balance and then 2017 came along and bam shyt changed..i took one vaca in june for 4 days came back and spent 2 full days digging out e-mails...things got worse from there

do your with thing with government gig..my brother has steady work doing government contracts (non IT)..they stay extending him and he gets paid pretty damn good..more than me actually..its all about the debt reduction
how did your brother get that contracting job?

A lot of prayer, searching day after day on the internet for gigs, and finally catching a Blessing from the Most High.

Landed on w/ a good company being an instructor and then my career took off from there. The company don't even acknowledge my degree, they look at them certs. I'm actually at a point now where when I go back home, I give the game to anyone of the old homies who asks what I'm doing so I can get them on. Especially if they only got a gig that they live off of from check to check and not going anywhere with it.

Worked for the gov for 4 years because my school advisor had navy contracts and he asked if I was interested. I said sure. That led to an MIT contractor job and then DARPA contractor. Finished my PhD, worked for a top UX consulting agency for 2 years (it was hell, bad hours, no downtime, shytty bosses, but I learned so much) and then recruiters started calling me. All my jobs since that initial UX job came from people contacting me and asking me to interview for their companies. When a better offer comes along, I change jobs. I’m currently working for one of the largest, most well respected companies in the world. And the pay is very nice. But, if company X offered me more money (equivalent to the location too), I’m taking it.

I have no wife or kids, so I have no problems moving. On average, I move every 2 years. I just take bigger and better jobs. One thing leads to another, and another, and another

Something I applied for via indeed. Not sure when, but they reached out to 11/1 and my first day was 11/13. Not six figures but mid $90’s, so enough for me.

My specialty is around business analysis, data and reporting. I kinda lucked into it. I started doing helpdesk for a company that also provided canned reporting apart of their software. Then moved into a Jr. database admin role, that included reporting/dashboards and that’s been my focus ever since.

I switched my major to M.I.S and was introduced to SQL and relational databases, which aligned with the DB admin role and that kind of started the degree plus related experience thing and eventually allowed me to command more. In 2016, I decided to focus solely on Sr. Level dat/reporting or Developer roles because I wanted six figures. :russ: and two years later I landed the Sr. BI Developer role I’m at now. My next move it to obtain certifications so I can ask for more when this contract is over.

What industry are you in?
