Everyone keeps mentioning a Pau/Kobe/CP3 trio. Pau wasn't going to be on that team. He was included in the trade and was being shipped to the Rockets.

The proposed trade would have sent Paul to the Lakers, Pau Gasol to the Rockets and furnished New Orleans with three top-flight NBA players in Kevin Martin, Luis Scola and Lamar Odom as well as playoff-tested guard Goran Dragic and a 2012 first-round pick that Houston had acquired from the Knicks.

He didnt take it as hard as Odom on the surface, who waa later traded to Dallas after expressing he felt betrayed by being included in that nixed deal, but his game and body language was definitely never the same. He also was on the decline. Lakers still pursue and land Dwight as a rental, but I'm not convinced Howard stays and has the fortitude to deal with Kobe AND Paul, especially if there is no Phil Jackson to manage personalities.

Oh yeah I forgot Pau was actually traded.

So then Kobe and CP3 with Bynum for their froncourt doesn't guarantee a 2012 finals yet, even though Bynum was having his best season of his career.
