Gangsta rap couldn't even get airplay for years. Gangsta rap artist where basically underground artist who sold by word of mouth and street teams. The media that blew Gangsta rap artist up nationwide was "the box" which could play their videos all day every day and could be watched without cable TV.

I see you're talking about the the rap version and not the RnB. The black community did embrace new jack swing, but by 93 it had ran it's course. That Kid in play video was from 91 and the Snoop one is from 94 two different eras breh.
