:ohhh:
Let’s say after WW2, instead of America defeating Japan, it was the Russians, and they installed a North Korean style communism and closed the country off to the world.

How different would the world be by now? Think of all the Japanese culture and technology we enjoy. Would some other country have filled the void?

If it were the Russians, the Japanese, as a people, probably wouldn't exist. They had a plan for a total scorched-earth policy (including people - genocide) as they were still sour from that last asswhuppin' @ Tsushima

They didn’t kill the Germans who did more damage to Russia than the Japanese so I doubt they would go that far.

crazy that this damn near happened if US didn't drop the bomb, it was supposed to be a joint invasion with the ussr from the north n the us from south.

Prolly woulda been a Korea or Vietnam situation
Russia would’ve ended any semblance of Japanese culture. The Japanese were terrified of a Russian invasion not the after effects of the A bombs. It’s well documented that Curtis Lamey was bombing the hell out of Japan for months before Hiroshima and Nagasaki and was actually did more damage.

Damn this a hell of a thread. Never thought about this question. There are so many things to think about if japan became communist.

Especially how that would affect China and Taiwan who are all in the same region. Especially with Taiwan and China's history.

Remember that the reason the US and Nixon extended a hand/friendship with China was because the US wanted to hold up the expansion of Russia. It also helped that after Stalin passed China and Russia had a falling out and relationships began to worsen. During the Nixon visit china also felt that they needed to stiffle Russia well.

One more thing remember that even in the angola civil war China and the US fought on the same side against the russians in that proxy war. Even though earlier in Vietnam China and Russia fought against the US in that proxy war.
