"How do black folks that are anti-gun control reconcile with the damage(d) people using guns
?"
have had on our community
I think many are not actually anti-gun control. Some are saying what we are doing now isn't working.Similar questions have been posed about rap music. Whether you agree with rap having a large impact on gun violence or not, it's a valid argument to make, but I think gun control and gun violence is the more interesting/important question.
Gun violence has been the leading cause of death for black children and teens since 2006. Black Americans are 10x as likely to die from firearms and 18x as likely to suffer from gun assaults than White Americans. The damage done to our community from them is easily observable.
However, gun control is a controversial topic among black folks, especially among those with conservative leanings. My question to those folks are, how can you oppose gun control and claim to be against violence in our community?
You would have to point out where I said do nothing. Some of the proposed gun control laws are common sense. Yes there should be universal background checks. Yes assault weapons should be prohibited. My point is an answer to the thread question. Black people are not more for gun control because they know that most people causing these issues in our community didn't buy those guns legally anyway. Which one of these proposed laws are gonna keep the guns out of our community? NONE. So its a logical mentality to have that if the dudes out to get us have guns, then so should the law abiding citizens. What kinda fukked up logic is this?
So because there will always be a form of an issue, we should do nothing to reduce its effects and potential damage?
As for the black market point:
The facts are is that states and countries with stringent gun laws, and neighbors who ALSO have such stringent gun laws, have lower gun crime rates. The presence of a "Black market" has not affected this trend.

Well the objective fact is that NY is safer than places with more lax gun laws so that supports the argument than gun control correlates with less homicdesYou would have to point out where I said do nothing. Take NY for example. SUPER STRICT gun laws. It's probably gonna change somewhat due to the Supreme Courts recent ruling, but it has always been damm near impossible to own and certainly to carry a gun in NY. YET, people get shot there everyday. And during the crack era? SHIIITTTT, people were dropping left and right.
So in effect what your original question asks has already been present in NY. As a matter of fact, gun laws in NY have been TOUGHER than what current gun control advocates are asking for nationwide. So explain why there have traditionally been so many shootings in NY?![]()
Wait...in the 90% number that was thrown out, he was including guns that were bought legally AT FIRST, then were sold illegally or obtained through theft? Uhhh...I don't think that it is a "legal" gun anymore. It was purchased legally, then sold illegally or legally with loopholes, or attained through theft or trade.
Less homicides than a place with more lax gun laws? Yes. So much less that we should feel like we are safe and guns for self defense aren't necessary? No.Well the objective fact is that NY is safer than places with more lax gun laws so that supports the argument than gun control correlates with less homicdes
Feelings are subjective. Facts are objective. The facts show that NYC is very safe compared to southern and Midwest cities. Look at the data of the cities with the most homicides by gun.Less homicides than a place with more lax gun laws? Yes. So much less that we should feel like we are safe and guns for self defense aren't necessary? No.
the weaponry most people have ain't stopping nobody from doing shiit.
Yeaaa.. while the govt militarizes police forces and politicians run around with law enforcement as security lets allow these same people to tell us that we can only have a handgunI believe that it's a southern state by the name of Texas that has the most gun violence.
Most people who advocate owning anything more than a handgun, are basically serial killers that are off code about protecting the black community. As in, they will let their emotions get the best of them and use guns for anything outside of the intended purpose of killing a (white) oppressor.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the average breh or brehette in the post-Crack Era ain't on the OG Black Panthers' paradigm. Today, most gun owners think about anything to protect themselves in terms of superficial and selfish shyt, and not on the good of the black community as a whole. Basically, off code c00ns wanting to shoot other black people over trivial BS and never against CACs.
An investigation showed the shooter, 28-year-old Jehrardd Williams, shot and killed in self-defense as he was being charged by a shirtless man who had been yelling racial slurs at him minutes earlier, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office report.
The State Attorney's Office will not file any charges against the man who shot and killed Dakota Fields in January at the Waffle House restaurant on Palm Beach Boulevard.
True. But I'm responding to OP's question. And he was asking about the proposed gun control laws and why blacks are not as fully behind them. So you realize, the proposed gun control laws we have been hearing over and over are NOT on the level of NY's gun control laws? If what has been proposed actually passes, the nation as a whole would still be far behind NY. Yes you would have to get your criminal background checked. No you would not be able to purchase an assault rifle. Maybe a 7 day waiting period. Clips limited to 10 rounds. You would have to be 21. If you get past those, which most people would, then buy guns and carry them daily. Would any of these proposals make you feel safer?Feelings are subjective. Facts are objective.
