I know there are poor people, but I'm specifically referring to cats who are able bodied and have decent jobs. If you got a decent gig, how in the hell do you allow yourself to be in a position where you can tell someone "I'm broke"?

Now for me, if I say "I'm broke", that means that I don't have any discretionary income that I want to spend. That doesn't mean that I have ZERO dollars. I ALWAYS have money saved for emergencies or whatever else. but I have heard plenty of otha nikkas/women claim that they have no money til they get paid for instance. how do you allow yourself to live so hand to mouth? how can you be comfortable NOT having jack shyt in case some shyt goes down?? totally irresponsible.

for instance, if I had 50K saved up, and I spent all my "allowance" that I allow myself every two weeks, then to me, I'm broke. what about ya'll?

1.. a lot of it is do to living life through others perception of u...for example people rather live in the suburbs even if they Don't have the money living check to check so they can say I MADE IT JUST LIKE U BOB, where they can live in a decent cheap area and stack money and be as happy...but they Don't want others to think less of them..

another issue is where u live and the job market even if u have the skills, the jobs are not there

i started a little late in life but i started having a $100 spending limit after every check regardless if its 500 or 1000+, now im not worried when its bill time because they always get paid. Of course theres times i go over the limit but i always keep my spending within that realm so it works out

i imagine thats how it is for most of us with regular jobs who try to save, shout out to my six figure coli nikkas tho :myman:

Pretty much the last sentence is me to a T. I've been "broke" with 100k in the bank before cause I was saving up to buy a house and needed to be frugal.
So broke is more about avoiding negative cash flow than not having it, after a certain age I think.

taxes, mortgaes, car notes, car insurance, etc, etc...

we all gotta pay those things. but I dont understand how folks can be actin all suprised when these normal fixed expensed pop up, when it's shyt they KNOW they gotta pay regardless.

me for example, I take $300 out of EVERY paycheck I have and send it to my credit union. I don't even see that money. I haven't for years. I used to do it when I was paying a car note, I'd send the money, but after paying the car off a few years ago, I kept doing it, and as I made more money, I upped the amount I was sending over. that's an easy $7500 saved annually just by living my normal life. and that's not even factoring in me saving the excess money out of my paycheck after bills are paid.

the way I do it, is I send $300 to the credit union. I give myself $250 allowance to my other checking account as well that's deducted from my paycheck, out of that allowance I used to pay for groceries and fuel primarily. and whatever other small things I need to buy. then take the remainder of my check and pay all my bills. and anything left over, I save.

so worst come to worst, I'm saving $300 every two weeks, but that NEVER happens, cuz my expenses NEVER exceed my income.

And your married and your wife works full time as well and both of you have good paying jobs.

And both of you are mid thirties and have been working at great gigs for years.

The average American household makes like 50k

I'm sure together you and your wife pull over 100k.
