How do restaurants get away with low wages for waiters?

I get the tip concept but if a worker doesn't receive tips then I don't see how the restaurant would not be on the hook to pay that worker. It just seems like a win/win for the owner. But I could be missing something so educate me.

I use to be a waiter/busboy, in IL tipped workers make $4.95/hourly minimum

It’s a flawed system that even i don’t understand fully. It’d be days i walk out of there with $80 then days i walk out with $15

Even if you get subpar service you should AT LEAST throw your waiter a few bucks, i remember this one girl was crying cuz she ain’t make enough money to buy her daughter diapers & formula

Tell the owners to lower their salary intakes. You can pay people fairly and have low prices for customers if the owner cuts a portion of their own money.

Restaurant I worked at back in the day would evenly distribute black folks across the restaurant. When I asked how come, they said black folks never tipped and would be unfair to have one server do all that work. I felt offended, but this brehette server said it was true

Stop buying into this myth that waiters/waitresses want change. They love tips because they can make more money than if they were getting paid minimum wage. That whole "I don't make money" bs is just to garner sympathy to keep the tip culture alive.

The restaurant industry has been finessing the people for years. The concept of tipping is not dumb. But the concept of paying services industry folks pennies and passing the cost off to patrons is stupid as fukk. Well it's not stupid from the service industry perspective; its genius.

So now, it is ingrained in us as a Society to tip. You feel pressure to tip because you know mothafukkas is making $2.00 per hour and shyt. But the the employer should have the burden of paying their employee a liveable wage, not the customers.

I'm a victim of this bullshyt. I hate the tip culture over here, and economically, it makes no sense for anyone to tip since they are not obligated to do it. But when I go out to eat or whatever, I tip decently. I talk a good game, but I have been brainwashed by society. To the point where I think tipping is stupid and don't want to do it, but still do it.

Every bar tender and waitress i know LOVE their job. Great money in that field for people with little skills.

IDC how much shyt would cost if it was paid hourly, plus most other countries don't tip because most countries are as stupid and backwards when it comes to things like tipping.
