How do restaurants get away with low wages for waiters?

For the other countries get it people...please specify the country because many countries do tip/expect tips, many countries give worse service in restaurants (silly Americans always want their picture taken....many waiters in other countries are not there for that silliness), they have smaller staff - both for better pay but also due to cultural difference of not rushing to turn tables as quickly, "tips"/wages are built in to the cost of the food - especially in Europe where you pay higher prices for less food, etc. There is no one size fits all

I would gladly pay more for my food if that means I didn’t have to tip. Until that happens I’ll continue to do what I do and that’s pick up my food if they allow it and leave. It’s a principle thing with me.

As someone who worked in a restaurant waiting for years employee split was 80 black 20 white. Customer split was 35/35/30 black spanish white respectively...... man oh man

Party of 30 white people come in mother fukkers would fight over the tables.... same party of black or spanish(excluding Colombian and Cuban ) brehs would be hiding in the back.

man i remember i got banned from chilis like five years ago cause they thought i had walked through the dining area like ten minutes from close and took all the tips off the table. racist ass fakkits. i mean, i did the shyt but you ain't got to be banning folks out here. these mufukkas had my pic on the front door all blurry from the security camera talkin bout 'if you are this man, you are banned.'

Legally the restaurant should cover their wage up to minimum wage after they report their tips.

In other words, NJ state minimum wage is like 8 dollars an hour.


If i work 10 hours and make $50 i’ve only made $5 an hour and when i report that the restaurant should supplement my tips.:dwayne:

Unfortunately most restaurants hardly do this and employees never get informed

I always felt like the cooks are the ones who deserve to be tipped
I find it stupid when people say you should by percentage. as if bringing me a steak required a lot more work than if it were a cheap plate

Don’t know how many times i got yelled at or got a shytty tip cuz the Mexicans in the back fukked up
