"Maybe, just maybe, we should all quit paying all of our attention to the singular action and pay attention to the root cause. IMHO, the root cause is the military mindset of the police departments all across America. In the Army you're trained that whoever is on the other side of the line is the "enemy." I can't speak for the other branches of the military, but I suspect it is the same. Your job is not to pacify or take care of the "enemy," your job is to kill the "enemy."
As an American cop, why would you view the person on the other side of the line as an "enemy?" In this one particular instance, the shooter was the enemy. How did he become the enemy? Likely because he was sick and tired of being viewed as the enemy by the police. Keep treating people like the enemy long enough and they will definitely become the enemy. And that's where we are today. More and more of "We The People" are viewing the police as the enemy simply because that's how they view us.
And sadly this view from the police is frequently based on the color of your skin. A decent first step in taking care of this problem is to #disarmpolice. Citizens should not fear the police. In a perfect world, the police also shouldn't fear the citizens. Alas, we don't live in a perfect world. I'd rather the police fear the citizens than the other way around.
And so many people try talking about disarming the people. I think Thomas Jefferson put it perfectly when he said, "The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it."
