ion understand how one rapper can be credited with creating a genre almost entirely driven by producers:mindblown:
The subject matter these nikkas rap about is not unique in any way, the only thing different is the flows, ad libs, and the lingo

It’s the production and content... you touched on what makes it exclusive to the south in your post.. the lingo

Edit ** even the drugs associated with the sub genre have been popularized

Boom Bap was the same thing.. lingo, drug(s) of choice, and production

Think about east coast music from the late 80s into the 90s “golden era”

It was the sound and lingo coupled with the lyricism (they way they put their words together and conveyed their message) that stands out

Mafioso rap had its place and the subject matter was its distinguishing factor, lingo was never as heavy a factor, obviously I speak with some bias being an east coast head but like you said the focus was more on lyricism. Trap music was always a melting pot of various southern influences, the same goes for the production, to pinpoint one person as the originator is foolish

You bugging..

I know some of my peers who tried to speak the dunn language

Said “Emphasized yo, dead ass, B”

I never said the content played a huge role in distinguishing it from any other movement

That is one of the biggest difference makers your playing down. I wouldn’t generalize and say everyone understood it but I get your point..

You can apply it to trap/mumble lingo that’s spread across the nation..

You could argue everyone understands what juggin is.. or trapping... or cappin

The tempo is significantly different than the around 90 bpm Boom Bap.

The drum patterns are sparse and muted. Almost like you have to search for a snare.

AND

The so called music

Sounds like a kid tapped the melodies out with one finger

The words are usually so dumbed down that basically only contain a bunch of catch phrases and keywords.
