I'm pretty new to these forum but lurk sometimes, and it seems are large part of yall are african americans.

How do yall feel about latinos who clearly have black in them saying they are just black?
Reason I ask is just cause I'm half latino but my latino side is black, if you didn't speak to my pops and heard his strong accent you'd think he was a black man not from latin america.

I always consider myself latino and most people just assume I am but I still know I have black in me and when I tell people I have black in me they're like ' :beli:, you aint black you're latino' , yea that's true but also my ancestors were slaves in south america .. I just don't like to deny what I am

Anyways, how yall feel about this ?

I look at it like this. Short story, I'm black.

My race is black. My Ethnicity is Latino.

When people see me, the first thing they see is Black skin. I am identified as such (Good, bad or other). I identify as Black, but at thanksgiving, we're eating platanos, arroz con pollo etc.

The only time it ever came up was when a new friend called the house and they clowned me the next day after hearing my folk's accent. :yeshrug:

I remember having a cultural day at school and bringing in Ceviche. I got hit with the :scusthov: real quick.

Latino isn't a race and more slaves were dropped off in Latin America than in the US. That shyt is like saying "you ain't black. You're American." What?

Black, but that's more by coincidence than anything. I've never favored (or hated on) anyone because of where they came from. That's just dumb, ya know? :ld:

I've been fortunate enough to meet good people of numerous backgrounds. Before we all went to college, my HS group looked like a UN convention.

the thing is Latino's are more in touch with their African roots than African Americans....from the food to the music to the traditions/nuances, customs, alot still practice african religions/ceremonies

Yea black americans got stripped of everything pretty much....black "latinos" just black folks that speak spanish, french or portuguese.....

Afro latinos are far too c00nish for my liking. Sometimes I think of all the black people in the diaspora, African-Americans are probably the only ones to openly defy the western concept of beauty and truly love themselves. The others have been thoroughly brainwashed.

Just look at what theyve done to our brothers in the dominican republic? They'd rather accept they are related to rats than africans :scusthov:

true....the slaves that stayed on the islands got to keep most of their identity and it was passed on .....no knock towards african americans but the latinos got the benefit of experiencing a lot of these things whether some realize it or not......not so much americanized latinos but more so 1st-2nd generation latinos

Mother's Costa Rican (dark skin) and father's Panamanian (light skin).

And, everyone consider themselves Black.

Most of that has to do with the fact that Africans bought to Latin America were living amongst a majority indigenous population, they were able to retain many traditions and so what we see today in Afro-Latin communities is really a nice mixture of Indigenous/African customs, foods, music, etc. As opposed to in the US where Africans were living in a majority white-immigrant population.

As for the thread, at the end of the day Afro Latinos are Black just like us. Afro Latinos who deny their African heritage and look to Spain as their motherland are no different from African Americans who say I know nothing about Africa and America is my real home.
