In hindsight I liked it. Selfishly wanted it at the PPV for it to feel special, it did however feel special and woke that crowd up. They set the table for something good, Rollins wins via cheating and Finn is in the chase which could be good for him. Finn wins and he's made a player immediately which is also needed.


Now we do NOT need to see it every week, quarterly at best.


Rollins was the perfect guy to debut him on because he's good at being a weasel who talks himself into being in over his head.


There's elements of Sting stalking the nWo and playing mind games in 1997 that they can use with the Demon character.


Like this one eventually against the right opponent.

I get that they wanted to introduce his demon side during this big debut he is having, but they should have made a big deal about why he turns into Demon King. Like he gets pushed into that place easy and have Seth do things to bring that side it. What they did was just "Oh, btw sometimes Finn puts on makeup. Let's show these cool promo videos, and have him do the special entrance, BUT NOT EXPLAIN WHY HE'S CHOSEN TO TRANSFORM AT THIS TIME." I mean if they are trying to convey that he does this for big matches to help him win, why shouldn't he just stay as Demon King all the time and never lose?

Make that gimmick something Finn doesn't want to turn into, even though it helps him. Make storylines around heels pushing his buttons and forcing him to be it when he doesn't want to. Have the heels pay for prodding it out of him. It's simple.

I get it from a merchandising standpoint...but how can they build up the demon persona without exposing the fans to regular Balor first?

Fans that didn't watch NXT know very little about Finn Balor as is, so the significance of the demon character is lost on them. "He wears paint and crawls around....ok.."

If he loses at SummerSlam then it's all a waste anyway

They're pushing this match all wrong. Balor and Rollins are legitimately 2 of the best wrestlers in the world right now. The buildup should be focused on how great each of them are and how great the match will be for the world of wrestling. This would bring more legitimacy to the Universal Title. This match doesn't need gimmicks. Just the pure raw talent that is already there.
