I don't think that's a real reflection on hip hop aside from it's popularity. If the internet existed in its current form 30 years ago they'd be making rock songs instead.

Yeah it is a reflection of Hip Hop...

Hip Hop is easy to make and it's cheap...

Making a rock song requires a band...and an actual recording studio...or maybe you make it in your garage...it probably wouldn't even sound good...

Then you also have to be able to sing...and singing requires training or it requires just being naturally gifted...

Rapping...it doesn't require any voice training...it just requires having a good sense of rhythm...and mic presence...but guess what...all these flows are carbon copied and a trap beat only allows a couple flows. It isn't rocket science like it was in the 90s...so just listen to a popular trap song and copy that flow.

Beats can made on pirated software and on a decent laptop...or you can take a popular beat...

You can record your vocals on a 150 dollar USB microphone...you don't even need an interface. If you got a closet, you got a recording booth

Then like...even the sound quality today of the most popular rappers...talking Lil Uzi, 69, XXX....ain't even that good so you don't even gotta worry about that...they ain't making Bad Boy Shiny Suit records. Go YouTube some shyt about vocal mixing. Just make sure you don't sound like total trash.

So...yeah...this is the problem with Hip Hop music...it's really easy and freely available to make...

Soulja Boy made Crank That in his damn bedroom and on a demo version of FL Studio. Hip Hop's barrier to entry has been slowly getting lower and lower and lower with today's music technology.

None of these dudes would be making rock songs because rock music and other forms of music have a level of musicality that you need to achieve before you even attempt to make other forms of music...

You know how easy it is to start a rap career....get a beat...and a microphone...and a laptop...

I'm not concerned. Putting actual effort into your bars, lyricism, creativity and putting real emotion and soul into your music is something that will never become outdated. All these rappers who have the laziest bars and the laziest flows just want to cash out because it looks cool, the imagery the culture provided is essentially a commercial, and becoming a rapper is the product.

Now being flashy has always been around, but when you pair that with the influence from rappers who aren't as talented lyrically, this is what you get. But popularity on social media doesn't always mean shyt. The top sellers are still Kendrick, Drake and Cole, so it's whatever. Real talent is something that people will always be impressed by, so all of this is just done for YouTube views, IG likes and viral marketing purposes.

All this is true, but I still prefer hip hop to be in the hands of the people instead of record executives. Think of all the rappers who got done dirty by labels when they was tryna get in the game, Mobb Deep, MF Doom, Kanye, Hov. Only reason we know of these rappers is cause they had the dedication and bread to keep going. We probably missed out on a lot of talent cause the barrier to entry was so high
If I gotta go thru some trash to find a few gems I ain’t mad:yeshrug:

Well yeah...I think Hip Hop's easiness and low barrier to entry makes it cool and the central reason for it's popularlity...:ehh:
