Building
Use the offseason (summer) to retool and rebuild. Like someone said the key is honestly to communicate from the jump what a prospects role on the team is. That way that can't be disgruntled once the contract is already signed. If they try to act brand new though, you can always waive them. Never be scared to bench, release or trade a player. I dont care how loyal that player was in the past, if she becomes a cancer, didnt live up to her potential or has been injured/played poorly too long...make best decision for your situation place them on injured reserve or release them as you see fit. The summer league is a good means to evaluate new talent. That way when the season starts you have a good idea of whos worth keeping around.
Playing Time/Rotation
Depending on your age, dont give young girls too much playing time unless you see them as your franchise player. Stash them overseas or on the bench until they've proven they're mature enough to handle regular minutes. At the same time, mold them, develop them and keep tabs. I'm doing this with a girl from my alma mater (4 years younger than me) right now.
Never fixate on playing one player too often even if she is the star. Too much attn/playing time and it increases the chance she'll get "tired" of you. Putting your players on the bench is necessary so that you can succeed late in the game. You have to keep things fresh.
Franchise Tag
And I would never do this, but if you can afford to do so with a girl whom you truly love...if she one day holds out or acts disgruntled franchise tag her and put a baby in it

. That way she's yours forever.
