First step is to deal with the idea that not everybody is going to find you funny. Most good comedians talk about having to be booed off stage a couple of times before coming into their own

Don't steal jokes, create your own persona, persevere, study the greats as well as those who fell-off.

Bottom-line, stick with what works and doesn't compromise your conscience.

Put yourself in situations you aren't normally in and talk to all different kinds of people.
