Sorry to hear about the lengthy bout, breh.

Have had bouts myself but, for me, staying busy and surrounding myself with positive people helped.

Good luck, breh-thren.

What you think about....You bring about breh....

Think about the good things in your life....Use your imagination, imagine how you'd feel if everything you wanted, worked out for you...Visualize that...and just chill in the feeling...

That's a starting point...

When you start making your own answers is a huge step. Answer your own questions to the best of your ability. Get addicted to life and live as deeply as possible. Don't let anyone get in your way. Nothing else matters but laughs and silence.

if you want some REAL advice...seek professional help. go to a couple different therapists til you find a good one. you need to have some real honest conversations with yourself on whats causing the depression, and you can figure out the rest with your therapists.

we can all sit here and say shyt like "go to the gym" or "fukk some new bytches" which will make you feel better temporarily....but depression is a disease that needs professional help. if you try to take it lightly you'll never really overcome it.

Is that how you over came your depression?

Ignore the people telling you to snap out of it. Ignorance.

Ask your doctor (general practitioner) for free samples of Brintellix. Ask for a prescription. It's expensive, but it helps if your insurance covers a portion and it may help to pay with a flexible spending account.

Also, seek talk therapy with a counselor, read on the subject etc. Oh, and prayer helps.

Really. And I didn't notice this until after my psychiatrist. Is just get into Zen Buddhism.

My psyche just sat there and said "nothing" and let me talk to myself. He pretty much sat in front of me and step by step got me to the point where I was able to say to myself. "I don't need this anymore" but that was after I gave him $600 lol

The simplest way to understand Zen I believe , for me, right now is "be a voice, not an echo"

No lie.... stop being a bytch and get out there and do things....if you're depressed, you have too much time on your hands...embrace pain because pleasure feels so much better that way

understand why you are depressive, realize what happened, happened and let it go - or stay miserable. stop smoking weed, hit the gym, understand the world isn't fair and you either get a thick skin and get yours (you can still be a good person, or goodish at least), realize happiness isn't a constant state, but rather moments between not so good, or ok, or bad or really bad.

this is what helped me and i come from a shytty neighborhood, shytty family with an alcoholic father who offed himself, shytty lifestyle, no money, being constant depressive with anxiety and a junkie weed habit for the last 12-14 years - and a year ago i was sitting with a rope around my neck in my place about to hang myself.

let it go and change your trained behavior patterns

Look at yourself in the mirror while you are crying and you will realize how foolish it is to cry over a breakup. Then start working out if you don't already.

Hey, sorry to hear about the depression. The sad thing is that in the Black communities, we don't take mental health or illness serious enough. I commend you on admitting that something is wrong. The fastest rise in suicides are Black males 18-25. Depression changes you and your brain physically and chemically. It moves you from interpreting life and events in the gradients of happy, neutral, and negative to you now interpreting events that were once neutral as negative as well. Thus less interpretation of events as neutral or happy, instead they are negative. Worse yet, the longer you stay depressed, the more your brain adjusts to a more depressive state.

You can help yourself by immediately starting to exercise, start taking fish oil, or eating more fish. These things have been shown to be as effective as medication longitudinally. You should consult a mental health professional for therapy to help you deal with whatever is impeding you, and to learn coping skills. You might also be prescribed medication, which will help your body and mind adjust back to normal. Then with therapy, exercise, coping skills, change in diet, you can decrease medication. It won' be easy, but it can be done. Lastly, find out your supports and turn to them, family, church, friends, whatever supports you have.
