He's unique. And great and what he did. There were so many mc's back then not everyone could be called great. But he's damn close and right near the top of the list of underrated mc's. He's been on a lot of songs with top guys and always held his own.

CL is easily one of Hip Hop's most slept-on wordsmiths. I've always spoken on how great this dude really was. Being paired with one of Hip Hop's best producers of all-time, kinda makes it easy for him to be overlooked, but the guy could rap.

I used to big him up on SOHH all the time. And if you really listen to Mecca and the Soul Brother and The Main Ingredient, like really listen, you'll see how incredible this cat was lyrically. Those two broke up way too early. Cheated a lot of us out of more classic music.

:russ:

"Pop like Orville Redenbacher" :wow: what the hell could be talking about

"Operate like a Doctor" :whew: triple entendre don't ask him how

I love CL Smooth, he had a really cool delivery, but he used to use the same exact fukking flow on almost every song and a lot of his older bars sound :dwyaneflab: now

Do yaw think he got over shadowed purely because his verses were mainly stories being told, and on top of that they just flowed with Petes beats so wells? Are we able to agree that he's had several flows?

Btw the Nas comparison, I favor neither him or Jay, he's just more of a story teller.

I used to get lost listening to him sometimes. He was kinda unorthodox.

"wanna get play like a billie holiday"

"mix with the trix in an alphabet stew"

"you can't find a knuckle game in a store"

he was kicking unconventional shyt that wasn't all that easily discernible to a 13 year old me.

Lmaooooooooo
I think he meant because like bumping P&C I would always drift off during Cls verse, not because it was bad but it feels so much like it's part of the instrumental. Like sometimes it's hard to listen to a verse when you've got so much going on with Pete Rocks beats. You've usually got to Disect them first and then listen to CLs verses.

I agree, I've been bumping them since 16, I've never listened to The Mecca & The Soul Brother though. I don't know why, but it's like ok I heard Main Ingredient and was like "This is all that I need in my life"

Btw have you heard Pete Rocks Cd with INI

Mecca and the Soul Brother is a must-own. That's classic Pete and CL there. One of my favorite albums ever.

That INI project was dope too! And he had one another back then with Deda that was dope, even though dude wasn't the best rapper. Anything with Pete entirely producing was golden back in 1995-96.

Damn, see but it's hard cause you have 2 killer tracks Straighten it Out and Troy, how do I go on after hearing those 2 gems. :mindblown:

Hell yeah, have you got the remix to Fakin Jax?

I think I have that, damn it's a shame Pete Couldn't adjust with times, I think maybe he hasn't had enough musical training or something. I don't know.

CL Smooth is dope. Complex yet passionate, classy conversational rap style with super smooth delivery. Him and Pete had NY on lock in '91-94 . I personally think TROY is the greatest rap song of all time.
