Just wondering, my dad told me my mom has never paid rent in 30 years of marriage. He pays for everything..

Thats crazy. Like he handles all finances, mortgage, groceries, cars etc..

I mean, i thought the whole point of marriage is splitting the costs of life and shyt like that.

that's old school shyt right there. nikkas is off that...:camby:

my wife and i have 3 checking accounts and one savings. one checking is for the bills and we each have a checking account (all under the same general account at the bank). we pay the bills with the bills account and put money in each of our checking accounts for whatever we want to buy or do individually. then any savings is going in the savings account. if i log into the online banking, i can see all of the accounts at a glance. been doing it for 12 years now. no problems so far.

My parents aren't together anymore. Dad pays her rent and gives her allowance.

i still can't figure out what part of the game that is.

And even when my mom made money she would give the majority of it to my dad.

my parents never lived together :yeshrug:

anyway...as a parent, my wife and I split deposit equal amounts of $ into a shared chequing account; our mortgage, car payment, bills etc automatically get debited from the account on a monthly basis

we each maintain our own chequing, savings, retirement, and visa accounts

we also have a joint retirement account, and an education savings account for our kids

Well if you can afford to, why not take care of your wife?

Somewhere tropic...
My Dad brought home his weekly check, and that paid for most expenses
My Mom's deposited salary stayed in the bank

That's AN idea, not THE idea.

I handle ALL the finances, balance checkbooks, pay bills, etc., but I go over all the finances with my wife and we decide, together, how to deal with expenses.

There is no such thing as MY money and HER money.

It's all OUR money.
