I need a 101 or beginners guide. It's something I definitely want to get into. What's the best affordable record player to start off with? What sites do you guys use to get your vinyl? Also going to need a step by step on how to play them :russ:

Start looking for local spots, and become familiar with them. Sometimes I buy 50 cent records, sometimes more. It depends why you want to collect. I just love vinyl period, and I also produce so i use them for samples. I also always will check out a yard sale, and craigslist, sometimes you can get lots of them at a great deal. I've seen 2-3000 record collections. On cl for 3-400$

Amazon has the cheapest priced vinyl, local record stores mark up is usually a few $ more

But because this a hip hop forum you're likely interested in hip hop vinyl, so let me just tell you now hp hop is the hardest to get into because they're pressed the least and usually only once

You got to ht up local record stores and start digging.

I admit, when I started I used to go to niche record stores that sold hip-hop, house, techno, drum n bass, etc vinyls in the late 90s/early 00s...and those aren't around anymore.

So you just got to look around, go to different categories of the store, take a stack of about 20-30 records, hit up the record player in there so you can listen to them before you buy (so you're not buying stuff on a whim and end up with a bunch of records you don't like)...rinse and repeat.

Truthfully, I've found a lot of records at the good will. Lots of promo records, rare stuff and some trash no one wants.

There's too much trash no one wants at goodwill though. A bunch of vocal band holiday records (I swear each goodwill has the same ones), and showtunes records. There's some gold there, but goodwill real is not my first choice for crate digging.

it seems that there is a record store closing down every month, those closing sales are good place to stock up at

also, buy "lots" on ebay ( a "lot" is a collection of records). you'll get everything from classics to trash
