1) Troop's "spread my wings" and Wrecks n effects "Rump Shaker" sound like two completely different songs do they not?
2) I agree that record execs pounced on the trends, that's normal. but Hip hop didn't start organically in NYC? Grunge didn't start organically in Seattle?
where did ariana grande come from fam? where did One Direction come from? where did Jason Darulo come from?
these people aren't thoroughbred artists that came from the gutter and just so happened to get deals and fame, they are industry plants orchestrated almost in labs to make money for the machine.
Granted my ear isn't as sharp as it once was but both those songs are in C, syncopated similarly and use a similarly tuned snare
And that's with one being a rap song and the other sung. On that note, Jason derulo and Ariana grande songs don't sound exactly the same either but have similar elements of the same catchy formulas
And manufactured pop stars have always existed, certainly Mudhoney and Kool Herc were organic artists seemingly valuing art over fame, but they're both rarities in their field too
The industry is stronger today so you may see more of their creations, but creating a star and crafting their songs around catchy formulas has been industry standard since someone realized they could make money off American music
