How does the NCAA Bowl system work?

Don't really watch college football so I dont understand this system.

NCAA basketball is understandable, it's a bracket of 64 teams until the last 2 which seems correct, however football has all these Orange Bowls, Sugar Bowls, Rose Bowls, etc.

They seem like consolation prizes, right?

Rose Bowl = Pac 12 Winner vs Big 10 Winner etc.

I don't know how it'll work with the playoff though

Booster clubs pay money under the table to the appropriate people so their team gets to play in a bowl game.

There's a panel of ppl that picks the playoff teams (some of which have nothing to do with football, for example Condoleeza Rice is on the inaugural one)...AD of schools, conference commissioners, political affiliates, etc

Also there's still going to be bowl games with the playoffs.

2 of the bowl games will be teh playoff games and they rotate every year, and there's going to be the rest of the bowl games as well

Determining a champ? They're both equally stupid in that respect.

It's an outdated, corrupt system comprised of what amounts to glorified (and I do mean glorified ) exhibition games. People support the foolishness so can't knock the hustle.
