what really fukked my head up a few years ago was when i dove into the DR/haiti relations rabbit hole

It earned the name the Parsley Massacre because Dominican soldiers carried a sprig of parsley and would ask people suspected of being Haitian to pronounce the Spanish word for it: "perejil".

Those whose first language was Haitian Creole found it difficult to say it correctly, a mistake that could cost them their lives.

Historians estimate that anywhere between 9,000 and 20,000 Haitians were killed in the Dominican Republic on the orders of the Dominican dictator Rafael Trujillo.

Following the earthquake that impacted Haiti in 2010, the Dominican Government revoked citizenship by birth from the Constitution, thereby affecting the more than 800,000 Haitians who resided in Dominican Republic at the time

Before I even heard of the "mi no black papi" meme, Dominican and Puerto Rican self hating black people were something I noticed in actual real life years prior. And the women are usually the worst of the genders when it comes to self hate aswell.
