Kendrick knew he had it won either way because even if Drake resisted every urge in his body to go the personal route we all know Drake uses writers, is shallow and surface level as an artist, with very low actual cultural cache. Drake was NEVER going to out-rap Kendrick. He was NEVER going out-write Kendrick. And he didn’t have enough juice in the culture to get anyone of note to turn on Kendrick. Thats why NOBODY except Yachty stood by Drake during the thick of his ass-whopping, they all waited until the worst of it died down to say anything supportive about him.
This.

That didn't work against Nas, why would it work against Kendrick? Cole tried this to a lesser extent while also trying Jay's "one hot album" thing - which once again did not work against Nas and clearly didn't work against Kendrick.

Ironically the best attack on Kendrick would be similar to Not Like Us: an anthem/banger that straight up clowns him. You're short, you don't have any bars people remember, you dress like shyt, etc. I don't think Drake was capable of making anything as potent as Not Like Us so he was always gonna lose, but he would have done better with a fun yet vicious track instead of Family Matters which was way too serious (and unfocused).

Corny sh*t.

Y'all Drake fans need to just leave it alone. It's over.

Should've ignored Kendrick and continued making catchy raps and songs. Maybe sub him and when asked about it say nah it's not about Dot.
This, but this doesn't qualify as beating Dot.

The fact is people were eager for Drake to lose and lose bad. People were calling the battle so early, it was obvious. When facing a superior lyricist with minimum dirt and a crowd that's just tired of you, winning was never on the table for Drake. Plus who knows how many industry shenanigans...

Naw this is rewriting history, the entire industry was riding with Drake before Euphoria dropped, and the stans on here were talking like victory was all but sealed.

Nah. And as soon as Euphoria dropped most people online were calling it as if the battle was over.

Well, that's what a Stan would do. I'm not talking about them though.

This isnt true

When euphoria dropped the industry was still firmly on Drake's side. People were claiming Kendrick was recycling Pusha T's diss, and when family matters dropped everyone in the industry got hyped. 40 minutes later meet the grahams dropped and everyone got silent, then finally admitted that Kendrick won.

I remember overwhelming praise for Euphoria, and little criticism for it being recycled. To my recollection, fans were saying "it's over" even before Meet the Grahams. :yeshrug:

You're talking about fans, the industry was going hard for Drake. Joe budden might've been the only hip hop media personality rooting for Kendrick.

Drake was too arrogant. He thought he had the haymaker with Family Matters and I think Kendrick baited him by not immediately responding and then dropping back to back to back (no pun).

The portion of the industry that was going hard for Drake were a lot of battle rappers, simply cause they had either written for him, or hopeful of writing for him, and Kendrick totally dismantling Drake was an indictment on those battle rappers skills. Everybody else was firmly and logically behind Kendrick. The biggest people behind Drake were Mal and DJ AK.
