It wasn't only a bad song, but the timing of the release was terrible. Their career and hardcore image were on the line, why would they do that to themselves and their fans:why:

Yep! That's what I mentioned earlier. it wouldn't have been so bad if the timing wasn't so bad with Takeover and Destroy & rebuild out there. They should've dropped Crawlin or Get Away (which came out after Hey Luv anyways). Nas was a fellow QB dude calling them out and they should've immediately scrapped all plans to leave hey Luv as anything but an album cut.

And fukk it, I'll say it again. Infamy ain't that bad, unless you just wrote off all of their music since then. In that case, fine. But if you enjoyed anything on Blood Money, Free Agents, HNIC 2, Return of the Mac, HNIC 3, or Albert Einstein, then you on some level accepted prodigy's change in style.

Also Prodigy was really sick with the sickle cell when they did Infamy. I think that played a part too.

Reach by the OP....this is one of their best performing songs on the charts, and its not a half bad song.

Overall, Mobb had already peaked artistically and creatively as a group, so Hey Luv was irrelevant to the trajectory of their career. P just fell off a cliff as far as an MC (and havoc as a producer if you wanna go there), which signaled the group's descent. That was the real problem.

I don't know what these dudes are talking about in this thread, this song was heavily played outside of NY back in 2001, especially here in DC. I remember Burn was their first single from that album, and it didn't get much play here (too bad because it was the best song off their album), and then around November or December 01, they released that song, and it was by far the most popular song off their album commercially. I realize that it was bad timing on their part to release this single right in the middle of getting slammed by Jay & Nas, but without releasing this song, Infamy doesn't even go Gold.

By the way, this song kills almost everything played on the radio today, and would kill the radio charts today.

I agree that in hindsight the song isn't bad at all. And at the time when it dropped I thought it was cool along with the Infamy album which to this day is really underrated.

But like a lot of people said, it was just the timing of the release of the song and the kind of out of left field "Mobb Deep" love song that rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way.

Get Away should have def. been the first single to come from the album has that ended up being THE stand out cut.

Infamy def. had bangers on it though from The Intro, Burn, Crawling, Hurt nikkaz, Clap, Kill That nikka, Nothing like home(bumped every time I touch back down), Get At Me, and the Bonus So Long Track ("I heard you duffin' C.Os out. You need to bring your black ass home and cut that bullshyt out" :mjcry:). Album wasn't all that bad.

Song isn't bad and they didn't sell out. We've seen a lot worse with other rappers.

The song wasn't bad at all ; it was pretty good.
It was maybe akward because of the thug image they were portraying and Jay/Nas drama.
