Reading a number of posts in certain threads, It is clear that many rate this album as the best of the new generation. However, some posters are saying it's getting overrated in the drake vs Kendrick thread. So, as a measure of how great it is, i'll list ten great to classic albums over the past, say, 20 years and you can comment on which of these albums GKMC is better than:

1 Me against the world
2 It was written
3 Reasonable doubt
4 Stillmatic
5 The blueprint
6 The chronic
7 Illmatic
8 The black album
9 College dropout
10 Ready to die

It will be interesting to see which albums people see as better than GKMC(or not) out of that list.

Thoughts?

I consider GKMC to be a classic Hip Hop album, but ranking shyt usually comes down to preference and nostalgia.

Albums like Me Against The World & The Chronic serve as sound tracks to my life during the most exciting & formative years of my existence. The imagery the songs on these album conjure up are so vivid & timeless because of how they interacted with the most monumental moments of my youth.

I can also say that albums like Illmatic & TBA, for whatever reason, I no longer have much of a desire to ever listen to those shyts again. I would put on GKMC 9 out of 10 times over those albums.

To the bottom line, I don't think I could put this album in the 10 top of my personal classics because of what I mentioned above. But it's a great album and I have no problem calling it a classic. Album is very rare.

out of that list, i'll probably bump it more than The Blueprint, Stillmatic, Ready To Die, and Illmatic. im not comparing it to those, but i rarely listen to those records, so GKMC holds a higher spot on my playlist.

its barely been a year so we'll see after Kendrick's next album how good this really is.

It will go down as a true classic. He raised the bar pretty high. It's not perfect but shyt it's close. It also has a lot more to say than a lot of shyt today. Could see someone not liking it but I don't like every album on your list so :yeshrug:
the fact this question isn't completely ridiculous to everyone says a lot.

I think its a modern day classic, compared to the albums that have dropped in the last 5 to 10 years, I would probably put it in my top 5 or 10....

I was thinking it was good and not a classic but I put it on this weekend after not listening to it for about a month and the shyt was just riding.

its a real good album musically, but the way its all centered around one main concept and the fact that he was able to have 3 successful singles with songs that were all a part of a concept album is what pushes it into that classic category for me....
