foreman admitted he was scared and even postponed the fight... ali was a perfect boxer in every sense

You comparing Patterson who has half the speed, quickness, strength, agility of a PRIME Tyson?

I don't get where this "overrated" talk comes from, Ring Magazine voted him best fighter more than anybody ever in history and most of his fights are in their top fights in history list....what do they have to gain by "overrating" him?

Regardless, if you think he's overrated because of his "celebrity", or if you think he wasn't the Jordan of boxing, whatever....but IMO, from a TECHNICAL standpoint, let's not act like Ali wasn't a boxing strategist who actually got smarter as he got older and less quick.

C'mon someone who, as an amateur, wins six Kentucky Golden Gloves titles, two natonal Golden Gloves titles, an Amateur Athletic Union National Title and a gold medal at light heavyweight in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome CLEARLY isn't "overrated".

Someone who, as a pro, fought and beat the greatest heavyweights of his era (including seven other boxers - besides himself - in the International Boxing Hall of Fame) and go 56-5 (with three of those losses being towards the end of his career, when he was clearly washed up) over a nearly 20-year career (if you count the years he was exiled), isn't "overrated".

Now...if you want to talk about the "Michael Jordan of Boxing" in terms of sheer dominance, there's no QUESTION that the answer is Sugar Ray Robinson:
  • 85–0 as an amateur, with 69 of those victories coming by way of knockout (40 in the first round) ( :wow: )
  • Professional record of 128–1–2 with 84 knockouts, in only 11 years of pro boxing ( :wow: )
  • once had a 91-fight unbeaten streak (third longest in professional boxing history)
  • first boxer in history to win a divisional world championship five times

prolific posting!!

technical skills are technical skills....
Tyson was made to beat ali, after ali had a model for study that was defeated to study.
when ali, was there in the present..
the person who developed a losing model and spent his entire life finding a 'possible' solution to the defeat of the original Floyd.
I really can not say, that technical model's upgrade could not be studied by ali.
while, ali was in the time machine, waiting to fight this prime Tyson.
you also,..fail to realize.
Tyson never fought the guys with the power and hand precision that ali fought as well.
also,..ali was familiar from actualized experience with the model.
whereas Tyson, never had pro bout experience with ali.
or an exact model built to be better than ali, by ali's camp with actualized skills and accomplishments, that exceeded ali.

Papi this is the Coli -- there's not one athlete is the history of the world that hasn't been called "overrated" at least once in here :manny:

I can agree, with ali being the greatest boxer because when we say great.
I look at that as being a term that extends to the social standing or impact someone has.
that extends past their so-called known profession or main skill/attribute.
so, I agree, ali is the greatest.
yet, I still recognize the original sugar ray, sugar ray robinson as the best fighter of all time.

Floyd Patterson had already lost his title and was in decline when Ali fought him

Ali said Tyson would beat him and Tyson said Ali would beat him when they were both on Arsenio

i love tyson has much as the next man, but him being so mentally weak I'd give the edge to Ali

Ali is possible the greatest heavyweight of all time and one of the greatest boxers ever. He was in some great fights and while he was given some gift decisions most of the time he earned the win the hard way.
