right, but that's the same for football. I'm not disagreeing with anything you said with respect to basketball - of course it's the easiest for kids to access and play. I'm just more confused as to why the argument of lack of accessibility is used so often for baseball when football has even less access.
You could be right.

:ehh:

I couldn't speak to football that much since most of the talent from that sport comes from the south, and I'd imagine football fields are more accessible in places like Florida, Texas, Alabama, etc...

Baseball....

Plus if you do it right, no really bad long-term dangers like the NFL has with concussions and other broken bones/ligament damage.
Guaranteed contracts

:blessed:

But every 5'9 kid in the hood think he gonna be that next Iverson.

:sas1:

Yall better get on yall Jackie Robinson and man up at 2nd base.

BTW,

Andrew McCutchen was named NL Player of the Month for June, after hitting .343/.410/.686 with 8 HR and 25 RBI.

Yeah.

Tommy John surgeries have exploded in recent years.

The reason for it is up for debate.
But I've read one of the doctors who performs them suggest that a reason for the surgeries isn't that adults can't handle the rigors of pitching. They can. Rather, kids these days don't have time to rest their arms. From the time they are in Little League, they're throwing all Spring, Summer, Traveling teams, Winter teams....there's no break.

Years ago you'd play other sports to give you body a break (and to strengthen other body parts) and things like that.

Seems to have some merit.
How else do you explain the surge in these arm injuries given the advancement in nutrition, physical therapy, medicine, physiology and training?

Juwan Howard, Kevin Garnett & Shaq's contracts in the 90s are the reason for the maximum salaries.......also didn't hurt that having Bird rights allowed owners to really go ham....shyt would have gotten ugly.

It's crazy that contracts have really been stagnant since 99.....Everyone's making a big deal about the Lakers offering a max of 4 years 95 million like they weren't getting like Kev didn't get 6 for 126 back in 97. shyt should be way higher for melo, especially adjusting for inflation.

For reference 21MM in 1997 is just over 31MM today :whoo:

Goatganda the pearl of Africa
Breh I remember like Charlie ward making 5 mill plus In the mid to late 90s

The NBA and NHL are the only two leagues that players were making more in the mid to late 90s than they are now

dude was making 18.75 in 01-02 which is the equivalent of 24.6MM today :damn:. And he only made it to ONE allstar game
