nah on the real, they're restructuring their business model on 360 deals.

you, as the low man on the totem pole "the listenr" aint seeing it and are missing out.

Labels don't laser target music and an album towards YOU, the single listener to go out and buy the shyt.

Rap/"urban"(bullshyt label) music is geared towards blanket stereotypes of groups. You may steal the album, but you're gonna come to shows. You're gonna buy the shirt. You're gonna watch the documentary.

But thanks to 50 Cent ethering Ja Rule, you're also watching RECORD SALES.

So it may seem like a label is watching an artist they signed for 2 million dollars flop just for the hell of it.

But they caking off his 5 million+ (and that's a LOW number) youtube views, his 300 shows a year and his movei/tv cameo.

The rules to all of this shyt change every 4 to 5 years.

But the way it's played... that stays the same.

Interesting convo, alot of mis information here but interesting none the less.

Something you guys also gotta realize is this. nikkas aint fukking with CDs no mo. I cant put a fukking CD in my ipod. N popping it into my computer and ripping it is annoying and tedious. Especially when I can jus download it for free straight from the homie Big Biz :salute:

Labels still dont really kno how to combat the mp3 wave. IMO I think labels need to do away with CDs n jus focus on digital. N simply make CDs a collectors item of sorts. The main we get our music is thru the net. So labels need to start making simpler chanels of selling their music to us thru that besides itunes. Instead of making a nikka hop in his car waste gas money to drive to best buy to cop something I can simply get it at my crib 4 free in 5 mins.

Oh and 360 deals are not mandatory. Also they are not as bad as you think. Def Jam aint caking off 2chainz appearance in Law and Order. All 360 deals do is take away a piece of your touring and merchandise (ON SAID TOUR). If you start a clothing line, the label dont get no cut off that.

Besides times have changed anyways. Labels are thirsty for Rappers cuz the internet got labels looking exposed. So they are giving rappers better deals then back in the day. Kendrick Lamar prolly got a better deal then Dre got back wen he 1st started.

J.Cole prolly got a 360 deal.

ASAP Rocky not so much.

Itunes really murked the physical sales of music... Jobs presented it as " either make money my way, or you wont make anything:youngsabo:" and the industry had it's hand forced.

A decade of iTunes singles killed the music industry - Apr. 25, 2013

the 30 and over market, would've still went out and bought music at stores, cause it was far more convenient and faster for them to do it that way, than scour p2p programs and forums for illegal download links.... Itunes made it where you don't even have to leave your house.

Labels have it figured out now, especially since streaming music services have come to prominence.

they might not be getting huge album sales, but they're making money on the back end from digital singles, ringtones, spotify, pandora,Satellite Radio,Rhapsody etc.

hip hop might be more prone to this than any genre...we've set a standard that you must give music away for free, to eventually sell records. but best believe labels getting their money.
