Real talk. This has been mentioned a lot man. But let’s really think about this. I’ve stated numerous times that negro spirituals helped free the slaves. It was motivational. Songs about loving your Blackness and political commentary by James Brown & Marvin Gaye helped us progress politically. Lil Baby had The Bigger Picture and people wanted to think piece it to death to essentially neutralize it. Knowing the power of music… what is our current popular music doing for us?

nikkas literally got bloodlust wanting to see footage of genocide

The problem with the “hip-hop influences people to kill” theory is when exactly did you pinpoint when people started picking up guns to kill one another because of it

Cause I lost a cousin who was only 14 to gun violence in ‘05 so maybe ya’ll know something I don’t.

Above the fray.
People go to extremes with some of the commentary pro and against.
Fact of the matter is that due to social REALITIES there are a lot of children growing up in less than ideal conditions and structure, parenting, education. Some of them are especially susceptible to negative outside influences.......including those who do come from family and structure.
The criminal element/lifestyle in their environments are seen as an alternative to a straight life of school and work. A lot of popular rap music promotes that lifestyle to them 24/7.
Whereas other children from the same environment can listen to the same music, and just see it as entertainment....the most vulnerable ones adopt it as theme music for their lives.

I think it's naive to think it does not play a mayor role in shaping mentality. We've all been kids. We remember how important the entertainment we consumed was to us. That was before the 24/7 social media era too..so it was a smaller part of our lives.
It shapes mentality. They don't have their own experiences to draw wisdom from yet. They don't have their own place in the world yet so they emulate what they see. They emulate the things that draw the most energy and attention, which is negativity and disrespect. Violence for men and hypersexuality for women.

What’s wrong with the drill video? All I see is young kings exercising their 2a rights.

I think it’s pretty evident what our current popular genre Drill is doing but we’ll never have a honest discourse about it so :snooze:

When all you do is listen to music and that one kind of music it can have influence on you. And when nikkas tell you you’re a lame for not listening to the worst shyt yeah that can turn someone into a YSL Morant.

Add in mobster movies, BMF worship and there you go.

Remember how much Dragon Ball Z influenced people who are now 30

Glad single mothers are taking their kids traveling internationally now tho, so they know there’s more to the world than the hood and special needs nikkas with guns

The music right now is the stench emanating from the culture. It's serving the purpose of indoctrinating the youth and the easily swayed (shoutouts to Ja).

I'm not saying it's the sole issue, or even the main one, but it's worth talking about. They make the worst shyt look cool.

We know regardless of music or whatever that living in a utopia isn’t really achievable… and everything you mentioned is also very influential and probably moreso than music. It’s like there’s always a small percentage of people who are easily influenced… but sometimes it just takes a certain combination of things to line up. Relationships, emotions, conflict resolution. How those things are handled, depending on the day can determine a lot. I will say if my father was either like my mother or not around, I don’t know where I’d be. I get my ability to resolve conflict ls from him… while my mother will easily fly off the handle. So nurture also plays a part. It’s all very complex.
