Wrong, we became top dogs around 1880 after we instigated the second industrial revolution. Carnegie created the largest iron producing nation, Rockefeller made the largest oil producing nation, JP Morgan made us the largest banking nation, and Ford(who I think was probably the greatest American) made the T model ford car which while the Germans made the first car they couldn't make it cheap like Ford did and in the process he made the assembly line and after that is was over, nobody was catching up to America.
