How is Jerome Bettis NOT in the HOF?

6th all time in career rushing yards, more than Eric dikkerson, Jim Brown, Marcus Allen, Franco Harris, OJ Simpson and Thurman Thomas. One of the most reliable power backs of all time, I fail to see how he's not worthy of Canton

Yea but are those numbers HoF worthy? He never led the league the league in rushing yards or TDs and was one dimensional as far as passing goes.

I think he gets in this year though once you put his stats in the context of him being a power back and doing what he did, but I understand why he isn't in there.

Kinda hard when you play at the same time as Emmitt, Barry, Terrell Davis, LT, etc etc. He was up there though. You don't have to be the very best at your position to be HOF worthy.

You don't have the be best, but the people you've named are the people he's being compared to for consideration, and if you look at the stats without context, that's why he isn't in.

Comparable to Thurman Thomas, or John Riggins, who are both in.

Considering what you may consider his "era" though, there are a couple backs I'd rather have on my team.

But also, consider the fact that the way the game seems to be evolving, his numbers will hold up over time a lot better.
