bullshyt. His praise has nothing to do with how big he is. If anything, hipsters are using his popularity against him :snoop:

People on here were already picking Kendrick over Lupe before the release of his mainstream album

shyt, I can even find threads from 2010 where kendrick is destroying lupe in these polls (not talking about thecoli):sas1:
You found threads in that post Section 80 2011-2012 era when Kendrick's hype was pushing him to the forefront of hip hop popularity, the same era when fans were still wiping the bad taste off their mouths from Lasers & mixed receptions from the Friend of the People's mixtape and some of Lupe's most polarizing work, musically. You have no argument :pachaha:

Nobody said Kendrick was better than Lupe until Lasers happened & Section 80 dropped the same year. Only then did nikkas switch bandwagons

of course... Section 80 is his first album :usure:. People were already hyped as fukk when he dropped The Heart part 2 and a few other tracks but we were all waiting for him to drop his first album before cosigning him as the next thing

Notice how a lot of people were already saying it was better than f&l

a lot of the people arguing Kendrick to be better are youngins and Kendrick is their first "deep" rapper...

in no way, shape or form is he better than Lupe in any category...

I loved lupe from his mixtapes to the cool. Section 80 is better than any lupe imo (hardly listed to that album outside of a few songs)

It's okay though. I get it. Lupe is well established and Kendrick hasn't released enough material for this to be a fair comparison. But I'd take section 80 over Food & Liquor and The Cool any day of the week

There's a Kendrick stan with like 12 alt accounts in this bytch :dead:

It is pretty much general knowledge that F&L >> Section 80

guess EVERY forum has alts then because it isn't an unpopular opinion :dead: Bx (our rivals?) even call s80 the possible goat album :stopitslime:

objectively speaking and from a musical standpoint, I don't see how s80 isn't a better album :stopitslime:

it's not even that...Kendrick hasn't showcased any of the qualities that Lupe did at the same point of their careers...i mean, pre F&L Lupe has tracks that Kendrick wishes he was proficient enough to make...

i honestly don't know why the Kendrick/Lupe thing comes up...maybe because they're deeper than the usual materialistic BS you hear all day, but Kendrick ain't on Lupe's level, period...that's not even an opinion...

Kendrick is a better introspective writer IMO and a better songwriter in general. In terms storytelling both are great, I'd probably agree Lupe is a better macro storyteller. But when it comes to personal shyt, Kendrick wins by a mile.

One of my biggest problems with Lupe was that he has always tried to portray himself as above everything, and near blameless. The best rappers had glaring self contradictions and flaws IMO, whereas Lupe tends to make music from a third person, observer perspective. Nas does that often but never really denied he was from the street, and sure as hell portrayed a contradiction. Meanwhile Kendrick isn't trying to pretend like he's just some "good kid," he readily admits he existed within the gang and violence structure and explores it from multiple perspectives. When he tells a story, even if he's not about him, it feels personal. Whereas Lupe sounds like some higher being watching a morality play from the heavens.
