Never lived there, but visited for a few weeks. Saw like a handful of black folks the whole time I was there. The people were super nice though, and not like the fake niceness I saw growing up in the South. It was summertime and stil in the 60s and 70s. It got up to the high 80s one day and they were acting like it was hotter than a suana. Nightlife was decent, they didn't trip off what I was wearing, unlike some clubs in TN and NC. Lotta weird homeless folks though. Like young kids who look like they're just homeless because they choose to be. Rarely saw any fat people, which is a big change from the South and Midwest.
