I always pronounce "gif" with the hard "g" (girl), not the soft (george).

That's the right way. The internet got together and collectively overruled the creator of the GIF and determined that the way it will be pronounced from now on is with a hard g.

I'm not even bullshytting. There was a long ass Reddit thread where people were like nah, it's GIF like Gift.
