I have been working at a restaurant as a busser since mid-November. This is my third job I have had in my entire life.

My fist job I ever had was a work study job at college and I worked that job for 1 year.

My second job was a temporary summer job that I worked for two months.

How long should I work at my current job before moving on to another job? In terms of my next employer wanting to know I can stay employed for a period of time/resume purposes how long should I work at my current job? I want to move to Atlanta, GA after I move on from my current job.

Once you have 6 months at this job apply for other positions. Do you think you can assume more responsibilities here and potentially graduate to handling cash flow or even being a waiter?

Busboy is limited in terms of customer service interaction and retail jobs will want to see you can handle customers. That is the next step up for you right now.

Your resume should never see any of these jobs. I worked almost a dozen jobs that I don't put on the resume.

My resume consists of exactly three jobs. The long term professionsal type ones. And I am talking almost 20 years worth over those 3.

So anyway: be looking for a new job everyday if you don't like this one. Maybe during lunch everyday look at the want ads or some ritual.

The amount of time you spend bussing tables just doesn't matter. If you can jump ship tomorrow for a better job, do it.

It will begin to matter when you get a "real" job. You want to stay in a job for years as far as the next employer is concerned. You don't want a job per year on your resume after several years the jobs would take up the entire page

what are you in school for? and how do you go from internship ...to bus boy?

@ThreeLetterAgency

I am not in school anymore. I have a two year degree in Business Management and got it in December 2015.

I live in Americus, Georgia and after graduating in December 2015 I applied and applied and didn't get anything until November 2016 for the current job I'm working at.

Before I got my two year degree I was actually at a 4 year university but didn't get my bachelor's degree. I fukked around and didn't apply myself and ended up on academic suspension along with accumulating 60,000 in student loan debt I haven't started paying back at all yet. I am 31 years old and live with my 61 year old mother who provides for me.

@Reginald Noble Yeah, I think I can assume more responsibilities and become a waiter if my manager lets me after 6 months like you say.

If I become a waiter after 6 months, how long should I stay before making my move to Atlanta?

@Ghost Utmost, I don't mind the current job and I actually enjoy it. But, I want more in terms of income potential. I want to climb the ladder and become financially successful and be able to provide for myself, take care of a future family if I decide to have one, etc. I want more than just a minimum wage job but I have to start somewhere.

I don't think I can jumb ship for a better job since I tried for a year to find a job after graduating and just landed this one.

I want a "real" job like you mentioned.

6 more months as a waiter. That will get you in a good position. Your credit is probably bad from the loan situation so you'll have to save up probably 3-6 months of rent to get an apartment depending on where you want to live.

you need to get a degree.

He's caught in a catch 22 he doesn't have money to pay to complete the degree and plus he has previous existing debt
