That's what I mean to say, mmlp is the one most people would agree on, SSLP had it's impact and moment as a mainstream debut but it's a little more iffy, TES is debatable but I feel like if I can say relapse is something I enjoy more it's hard to call it a "classic" in favor for that.

I fukks with you Sunzoo, but what impact did MMLP have on the game? Really? Impact to me is Jay's Blueprint and everyone doing the soul samples, BIG's Life After Death where every rapper had to have a double time flow track, snoop Dogg's Doggystyle...those were IMPACT records. I don't recall anyone using anything off MMLP. It sold like crazy, but honestly, it sold like that cuz he was white. you see his fans were the TLR crowd, the same crowd supporting NSync and Backstreet Boys. the nikka actually dissed pop stars like they were some threat. Nas, Jay, DMX would be laughed at for even mentioning them in 98/99.

Impact to me just means an album/artist/song had a remarkable presence for whatever reason, you have albums and songs that kinda have their own moment. I don't think you can negate the presence of MMLP just because of some sales inflation or because you didn't like who he made a punchline out of.

And I don't really think people have to be rushing to duplicate an albums sound or style for it to have impact. Jay's "blueprint" wouldn't have been the blueprint if ghostface had kept those beats. That album, from kanye's debut, to the battle to jay-z just being a pop star (hint) at that point in his career all played more of a part in it's impact than a couple people imitating it...or even buying from the same batch of beats.

The only thing you could really "use" from an album like MMLP aside from lines or some patterns (jay/masta ace ect.) is the personal approach to making an album. Look at one of the more noteworthy albums as of late with GKMC (how you feel about that album is whatever), out of all those albums you brought up it's probably more similar to MMLP than any of them. I don't remember that much vintage/early hip hop being as grounded in the artists personal lives and back stories.

The lyrical/style influence is easier to see, and people like lupe and kendrick have even said as much, but it goes deeper that in my opinion.

And IMO, and he's said as much...eminem understood he was getting grouped together with the boy bands and the pop stars, they were now his "peers" for better or worse which is not what he really wanted. Him making them punchline fodder was his way of separating himself and making it known that he was hip hop/ MC first and foremost.

When his peers in the game were JUST other rappers he was saying shyt "fukk ICP, buy my CD", shyttin on brandy and mase, ripping mystikals voice box out ect...nobody gave a shyt then though.

:what:at denying MMLP and SSLP. Certified classic albums.

TES falls short, but how dudes don't recognize the former two as classics blows my mind.
