I had to sing this song damn near every year from second grade through high school and probably dozen other times with my chruch's youth group or my grandmother's performing arts org during BHS and other black-centric extracurriculars. I can remember the first couple stanzas off the top of my head but I probably wouldn't be able to remember the rest until I got to that part of the song and it came to me.
This is right up there with I Believe I Can Fly in terms of songs 90% of black children under say 35 were taught to sing.

I went to a mostly black Catholic school too. My third grade teacher forced us to memorize it.Had to learn it in catholic school (went to a mostly black catholic school) as a little kid...

We didn't even sing star spangled banner in school. I didnt even know that bland mayo shyt was the national anthem until like high school.

Minimal suspensions and expulsions.
Four valedictorians b/c they all tied for straight As 5.0 gpa in All AP SUBJECTS offered at the school.

AP Spanish
Real legit jazz and gospel musicians teaching the arts
Millions and millions of scholarship money for graduating classes
Entire school systems of black excellence without whites.
It's a beautiful place to be in ya'll.
