They are not necessarily doing it to make themselves feel better. Like I stated earlier they are doing it because other people are doing it.
Its herd mentality. If you think about it its truly terrifying.

... that although we have 26 letters in the English language, there are 44 phonemes in total. Not everyone was taught to break down words phonetically. Most people just learn it through practice and experience.

Chalk... (The C is pronounced with the 'choo choo' sound)

Cat... (Here, the C is pronounced like 'K')

When the black man on wheel of fortune read 'Archilles' wrong, it was because he read the 'C' using the wrong phoneme, which is understandable because there is a 'h' next to the c. He used the 'rule' of experience and unfortunately got it wrong, as he probably never heard the pronunciation of that word before.

That video is going viral now & instead of people seeking to understand his situation, they're quickly using it to psychologically tear him down. This is what I hate about the internet. People are so quick to laugh and point without reflecting.

You could already see the pain of embarrassment in his eyes and now people want to immortalize it? Before you laugh at someone, stop and think how you'd like people to treat you, if you were in a similar situation.

:wow:

:comeon:

That is all well and good but maybe this is some new education they're serving the Children but I was taught Phonics so I cant fathom incorrectly saying Achilles. Most of us have been fed that gay Greek Mythology nonsense and sheeeeeeeeeeet...even if you aren't an avid sports fan, you have heard dudes injuring their Achilles.

He look an L on national TV...i felt bad for him but cmon bruh :dwillhuh:

A bit of both, I think.

And ITA that it's terrifying.

Yep. To a certain extent every single one of us falls subject to this kind of mentality depending on the situation we encounter. One thing I have found that has greatly improved my life is catching myself mentally before I fully go with the flow and changing the course of my mental direction through analyzing the situation logically. When I began to do this regularly especially when it came to my interactions with friends or when it came to day trading I saw myself not falling to the same errors majority of people would usually fall into and I found greater success.

Understand that not everyone had the same opportunities as you, or the same upbringing.

So he never had the opportunity to hear ruptured Achilles on ESPN OR read a book on Greek mythology OR learned phonics? :wtb:

I guess I am really blessed :blessed:

Maybe he didn't grow up in the states? Africa? Europe? Synthetic phonics was only introduced in Britain in like 1998. Again, not everyone had the same childhood as you. Also it's possible that he's not a football fan or that he hasn't read up on Greek mythology.

You make mistakes and you live. I was just providing some explanations as to why he made the mistake he did, instead of branding him a 'fool'.. like majority of people have.

Exactly. It's not that complex. I hate that we have generations now that want a prize for just showing up. That's not going to get you anywhere in life.

Maybe he is from Africa or some far off land but let me understand this...I am sure you dont have to be a Mensa member to make a game show, but I would think you have to somewhat smart. So he had to learn how to break down words to pronounce them- seems like he can say every other word correctly.

Yes, he made a mistake and because its on TV- he will get clowned..so what...he will live ( hopefully) and probably do big things
What I am not for is babying someone if they messed up. People are clowning him..SO WHAT...if he cant take that good luck surviving in the real world kid

It's honestly not "understandable", I hardly graduated and went to a community college and I can pronounce the word. If this is what university students resemble :snoop:
