Moved to cali taking another position within my company.
Cali was great. But differences with management made the position a less-than-ideal fit...and with certain family health issues back home, I got my old job back in NYC.

Moving away can be a great thing. It's something different.
But you have to remember that with all the good things that are different...there are bad things that are different.

Food largely sucks in cali compared to NY...unless you love asian cuisine and mexican food, then it's amazing.
Plus culturally it was just different. NYers typically move and think quicker. We're a bit less patient. We're a bit more crass in our humor and things like that.
And being Dominican...there's no Dominican or Island culture to identify with out there. So even though Mexicans are "latino", it's just different.

The coli being a largely black community, it's a different experience.

I didn't see many black people in Cali when I lived there. It seemed like black people were relegated to certain neighborhoods.
If you fly into Long Beach and drive up through the city..then yeah, it's different. But I was around Glendale on the border of East LA and Pasadena. Mostly Armenians up that way.

I have moved numerous times, but was always within 6 hour drive. Most recently though I moved 1700 miles. I regret it every day because of leaving behind my family and friends.

Hoping to move back, but I bought a home which is a sticking point. Speaking of which, I fukking hate being a homeowner.

Can you explain more? For the last 5 years I've been opposed to the idea but more and more it's creeping out from the back of mind as something I probably want for myself in the not so distant future. It's going against my better sense of judgement and couple that with the fact that I watched the house we grew up in get foreclosed on by the banks because ma dukes couldn't keep up with the mortgage payments after her and my dad split and me and my sisters had just been put through college. Seeing the anguish of someone day to day from that kind of stuff fukked me up a little.
