i moved to a city where i only knew one person, and everything seemed to work itself out.. :leon:

probably the best decision ive ever made.. sometimes, its good to get out of your comfort zone.. made me challenge myself more, and do different sh!t(camping, hiking to waterfalls, etc).. dont see myself moving back to my hometown anytime soon..

Can you explain more? For the last 5 years I've been opposed to the idea but more and more it's creeping out from the back of mind as something I probably want for myself in the not so distant future. It's going against my better sense of judgement and couple that with the fact that I watched the house we grew up in get foreclosed on by the banks because ma dukes couldn't keep up with the mortgage payments after her and my dad split and me and my sisters had just been put through college. Seeing the anguish of someone day to day from that kind of stuff fukked me up a little.
First off, I hate the lack of flexibility. If you need to move, or find out you dont like your home anymore (neighbors, space, whatever), it makes you feel stuck if you havent lived there long enough to gain equity. I think on average it takes 7 years before you pay off enough of your mortgage principle that you wont take a financial hit if you resell. I bought my home brand new and 6 months later got a notice from my city that a new appraisal has pegged my house at a 10,000 reduction in value. Between that and sellers fees, Im going to lose bigtime money when I move again. An unplanned event is causing me to have to leave.

On top of that I hate the responsibility of maintenance. Sealing and staining fences, weather damage, lawn and landscaping, it fukking sucks to know I have no escape from it. Like right now I have a gopher or mole tearing the shyt out of my front lawn, and Im probably going to have to get all new sodding done if it continues.

Renting makes no sense if you are locked in somewhere long term, but for anyone who may feel that moving within 5 years is even a remote possibility then buying a house is dumb dumb dumb. I have learned my lesson.

Odds are Atlanta once income tax come around. Assuming I do not have a position offering $40K or better in Miami. Stay up in Atlanta for 3 to 5 years then to LA. I love that place. I felt at home.

I moved from DC to FL. I didn't like it and came back 3 months later. Now I miss it and want to go back.
