It’s 18. There’s a mathematical proof.


I counted 19 the first time because I counted the whole triangle as 1 Unit, then at the end I counted the three tiers again and didn’t realize I’d already counted the largest triangle.

Put it another way, each tier has six triangles and there’s three tiers: the three triangles can form two larger triangles and then all three together form another largest (3+2+1=6); and there’s three tiers, so 6*3=18

Oh shyt, I wasn't counting in tiers

I didn't notice until after I saw the 12 triangles that the drawing is actually a pyramid. I was looking at it from a 2D perspective initially due to all the extra lines.
