There's a video circulating now of a Turkish Muslim woman found after days under earthquake rubble who wouldn't even come out of the hole rescuers dug for her unless and until she was given a hijab. Now I won't pretend to be a Islamic scholar but I don't think there's anything in the Qur'an that says women must behave like this in times of life-threatening emergencies, so that act felt extremely performative and attention-seeking.

But that's an extreme analogy and i'm surprised that such a woman is in Turkey, I thought Turkey was more modern than that compared to other islamic countries.
