You know what's crazy Rock is pretty much dead now. They killed it with punk rock, you don't even hear that shyt really anymore. Plus you realize the bands you listed came well before 360's, Green Day but out since the late 80's and RHCP even before them
Maybe on commercial radio but rock is still by far the best selling genre specially if we count Classic Rock, modern rock, hard rock and alternative rock as the same genre.
Bigger than everything else combined.
The thing with rock is that these indie bands are not signing contracts, there's bands for everyone..
So many rock classics droppings every year. We have the oldies for the old people, the psychedelic for those who want that, the arcade fires, arctic monkey, vampire weekend and shyt for the general 'interested' rock fan, the Grizzly Bears, Tame Impala, Foxygen and shyt for the hipsters, 30 seconds to marsh and whatnot for the 12 year old girls who don't know music, the list is endless.
Great rock music on the radio in the US (excl RHCP & Coldplay if they count) has not existed for decades, Nirvana had their lil fame but yeah..
Of course great bands have gone platinum like Radiohead but they were more like Arcade Fire before Arcade Fire.
